From 29 to 30 October 2019, Seraphin.legal was in Dakar, Senegal for the Dakar Legal Tech Forumco-organised with theVirtual University of Senegal and Legal Tech Africa.

The theme of the meeting was training. Indeed, Seraphin.legal and the Virtual University of Senegal (UVS) have signed a partnership, the result of several months of exchanges and meetings, including between Seraphin.legal and Professor Jean-Louis Corréa of the UVS, with the objective of mutual enrichment of the devices that the two structures have initiated in parallel.

Seraphin.legal, a pioneer in legal tech training, had launched in July 2018 the first training Legal Tech Lawyer Academy. The Virtual University of Senegal is the first institution in the world to have launched a 3-year degree in Legal Tech in February 2019.

In order to offer a certified training in Legal Tech for lawyers in Senegal, Seraphin.legal will make available to the UVS not only its scientific and pedagogical expertise to train tomorrow's lawyers - Digital Lawyers / Legal Tech Lawyer - as well as the network of Legal Tech experts from its ecosystem, but also, for all the students who follow the Legal Tech License, its technological base intended for legal professionals. In exchange, the UVS contributes to the scientific work on the different training programmes and the reference system of competences, as well as to the digitalisation of the training modules.

The signing of the partnership took place on Tuesday 29 October 2019 during the forum, on the sidelines of the exchanges.

The presence of Seraphin.legal during the forum was also an opportunity for Thomas SAINT-AUBIN to participate in a round table on "Securing and valuing intangible assets in the age of open innovation" as well as a discussion on the topic of "Smart Contracts and Intelligence artificial".

Elisabeth CONAN, Director of Training at Seraphin.legal, presented the professions of the "Lawyer of Tomorrow", identified within the Seraphin training R&D department and validated by an associated skills repository, the result of research work carried out jointly with Professor Jean-Louis Corréa, Associate Professor of Law and Head of the Legal, Economic and Administrative Sciences Department. The Digital Lawyer / Legal Tech Lawyer professional certification covers all the digital skills expected of tomorrow's lawyer:

  • The Data Lawyer masters the technical and legal issues related to data. They search, collect, produce, transform, enrich and disseminate legal and judicial data and metadata in a visual manner.
  • The Privacy Lawyer is able to bring organisations of all types and sizes into legal and technical compliance with data protection and privacy laws.
  • The Legal Tech Project Manager has transversal knowledge in the Legal Tech sector. He/she coordinates and mobilises the appropriate resources (human and technical) to deliver a tailor-made product to clients.
  • The legal coder is capable of interacting with a team of developers. He/she knows one or more programming languages and one or more techniques for automating legal documents.
  • The Legal Marketer formalises and promotes legal services and products. With cross-disciplinary knowledge in the communication and marketing sector, he/she knows how to coordinate and mobilise the appropriate resources to design and promote his/her client's offers (legal department, legal structure, Legal Tech publisher, etc.).

Finally, the forum was an opportunity to present the technologies developed by Seraphin.legal (Seraphin Contract Management and Seraphin Assistant), to which the students of the UVS Legal Tech degree will have the opportunity to be trained.

Seraphin.legal thanks Professor Jean-Louis CORREA for his invitation and all the teams of the UVS for the organization.
